White Paintings

April 21 - May 21, 2018

VSOP Projects is pleased to present "White Paintings", an exhibition of new works by Brooklyn and Long Island-based painter Jacqueline Ferrante. We welcome you to join us for a reception with the artist on Saturday, April 21 from 6-8 pm.

Over the past 8 years, Ferrante has produced abstract paintings and photographs that investigate and mimic surfaces in our natural and built environments as they evolve as a result of accumulation, erosion, and decay. Foregoing the use of a paintbrush, Jacqueline favors the palette knife and non-traditional tools to layer, rub, splatter, and strip paint from her canvases.

While typically bold and adventurous in her explorations of color, Ferrante has chosen a more subdued palette to work from in these newest works, created while on residency at Brooklyn's Trestle Gallery. A spectrum of blue, pink, yellow, green, and violet underpaintings are all but rendered invisible with white and earth-toned surfaces. Rather than the density of the urban environment that she tends to portray, these new paintings are more suggestive of the earliest brimmings of Spring mosses, barks, and lichens.

In connection with "White Paintings" the artist will give a talk on her work and influences at the gallery on Saturday May 12 at 2pm.

VSOP Projects is located at 311 Front Street in Greenport, NY.
Gallery hours are Wednesday - Sunday from 11am-6pm and Monday + Tuesday by appointment. For more information, follow @vsopprojects or visit vsopprojects.com.
